Out and Equal Conference

I apologize, dear Readers, for my absence yesterday. I am at the Out & Equal conference in Chicago, and I had trouble getting internet access during the busy day yesterday. Fortunately, HP set up an internet cafe in the exhibition hall downstairs in the hotel for conference attendees, so I am now able to report in and tell all.

The conference organization is superb, and I'm learning a great deal and meeting wonderfully interesting people. Most major corporations have a presence here. I am also amazed at the commitment made by the Out & Equal organization itself to transgender workplace issues. The conference program includes seventeen (!) seminars specifically addressing transgender issues. In addition, there was a day-long pre-summit seminar on Wednesday offering Transgender Speaker's Bureau Training. I can't even begin to describe all the offerings here.

I also attended a reception sponsored by GenderPAC, sponsored by JPMorgan Chase, and was stunned to meet so many people from major corporations who support jobs for transgender people. Of course, the problem is just starting to be addressed, and there is a long way to go before equality reigns, but I was heartened.

Time to run off for the next session.
