Nancy Pelosi Speaks About ENDA at Netroots Nation Conference

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi spoke to a large, supportive audience at Netroots Nation. She spoke about many important issues, and I was lucky enough to have my question from the audience read first, asking about the Employment Non-Discrimination Act.

She said that ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, was her first priority, and that "there was a lot of support for ENDA."

However, she said that Don't Ask Don't Tell repeal moved first because it was to be attached to the Senate Defense Authorization Bill, which was planned first for a vote.

Robin McGehee, of the direct action group GetEqual, was undeterred. As the Speaker was giving her answer, McGehee shouted "Move on ENDA now!"

To which the Speaker replied "you're right to be impatient."

Later, talking about another bill, she also referenced ENDA: "I want to do it, you convinced me, now build the mass to make me do it."

Glenn v. Brumby: Judge Story Makes Hamburger Out Of Perfectly Good Steak

The Bilerico Project | Daily experiments in LGBTQ: As I discussed previously, the Glenn v. Brumby lawsuit is premised on the Equal Protection clause of the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment (No state shall deny to any person the equal protection of the laws), rather than the federal civil rights statute.

This brilliant legal maneuver was permissible because Ms. Glenn worked for the state government. In ruling for Ms. Glenn on her first claim, but against her on her second claim, Judge Story said that their reasons for firing Ms. Glenn were not legit, but then he said they could be legit and they were legit on her second claim. He ground up perfectly good steak and made it into hamburger. So I like him for what he did for Ms. Glenn, but I don't like the reasoning he used.

Georgia Federal Court Rules For Trans Woman on Sex Discrimination Claim | The Bilerico Project

Georgia Federal Court Rules For Trans Woman on Sex Discrimination Claim | The Bilerico Project: The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia ruled late Friday that the Georgia General Assembly illegally discriminated against a transgender woman by firing her when she announced her plan to transition from male to female.

In so doing, the Georgia federal court has joined a number of other courts around the country that have ruled similarly. The case, Vandiver Elizabeth Glenn v. Sewell R. Brumby, could now be appealed to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
