For transgender service members, honesty can end career

WashPo article on trans military personnel. The US military is one of the largest US employers, and 20% of trans people have served, double the average. Yet, being openly transgender still precludes military service in the US because it is seen as a sexual disorder, despite the fact that the American Psychiatric Association has now reclassified "gender dysphoria" outside of the sexual disorders category. The military is specifically exempted from the federal Civil Rights Act, and the courts have held that the military has special exemptions from the constitutional requirement, applied to the rest of the government, that requires "equal protection of the law."
