Today is the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 14th Amendment. It is the source of both constitutional racial equality and LGBT rights, though conservative Supreme Courts refused to allow this until recent years. Even so, there is much inequality that devastates lives and communities. Let us pray that we not go back to the evil days of Plessy v. Ferguson, when the Court read the words of freedom and equality but interpreted them to mean segregation and Jim Crow. Let us pray to our Senators that they let not such evil onto our precious Supreme Court.
